Choose the right paddle
Beginners should look for a stable, forgiving paddle-typically one with a fiberglass face, a thicker core (around 16 mm), and a larger sweet spot. This setup improves control and reduces unforced errors.

Focus on control rather than power
Pickleball is a game of placement, touch, and rhythm, not just strength. Consistent returns and soft dinks are often more effective than frequent hard smashes.

Practice serves and returns
A reliable serve that lands deep in the diagonal service box and a deep return that gives you time to move forward are two of the most important beginner fundamentals.

Pay attention to footwork and positioning
Stay in an athletic stance with slightly bent knees and be ready to move. Whenever possible, move up with your partner to the kitchen line to gain an offensive advantage.
